The Admin of Njalla a hosting provider brokep, is a Swedish entrepreneur and former politician. He was a co-founder and ex-spokesperson of The Pirate Bay.
Q: Hi what is all this about people accusing you of domain thefts?
why is this happening or do you deny this?
A: We don’t steal domains. To those accusations this is our answer: https://njal.la/blog/great-artists-take-action/
From time to time we get questions from new users who ask “if we steal domains” because they have read a negative review on Trustpilot. Fair question, easy answer: No, we don’t.
What we do – often and proudly – is suspend users who abuse our services for phishing or scamming purposes. We do this, because even though Njalla is focused on privacy, it does not mean we like all privacy-seeking customers. Actually, there are some customers we really don’t like and really don’t want, even though they often offer to pay large sums to stay with us when we suspend them. JFYI: we might take the bribe but then don’t follow up on it. We’d spend that money on a vegan BBQ.
The mission of Njalla is to make the internet (and the world, but lets be honest, the internet is the best place in the world) a better place. We do not care about profit, ask our lawyers about the stupid lawsuits we’ve paid for fighting (and always winning, good people or good lawyers?). We run Njalla because we want to support developers, activists, journalists, NGO’s and other people doing good work for the benefit of others. Scamming other people for their money is not making the world a better place, so of course we will not host such crap.
We aggressively and without mercy strike down on scammers, phishers and other people hustling regular folks. And when we do, they get sad because they lost their domains and servers, and then we sit in our little Njalla hut and celebrate with a veggie burger, drinking the bubbly tears of crying scammers. Some day we’ll release our new drink Tränenschorle.
So: If you are kind to others, Njalla is there for you. We will go through fire to help you protect your data and privacy. If you are not nice to others, please change behaviour or at least don’t be surprised when we shut down your account and services.
This is the official ICANN policy regarding transferring expired domains which we oblige to.
Q: Is it true that you cannot transfer domains here without renewing first? This seems unreasonable
A: No. You have the right to transfer an expired domain. Registrars are not allowed to deny a transfer due to expiration or nonrenewal, (unless you haven’t paid for a previous registration period).
However, if the current registrar has begun to delete your domain (i.e., the EPP status code (https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/epp-status-codes-2014-06-16-en) shows the domain in Redemption Grace Period (see also https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/gtld-lifecycle-2012-02-25-en), the name must be restored by your current registrar before it can be transferred. This may result in an additional fee, sometimes referred to as a redemption fee.

So domains in redemption or grace periods need to be renewed before they can be transferred.
Q:Could I ask about your new VPN service does it have a killswtich? what countries are available as options?
A: VPN: We use Wireguard and OpenVPN. Whatever config you do yourself we don’t care 🙂 We don’t provide specific countries, but our datacenter is in Sweden.
Q:Do you have any special offers by the way?
A: No special offers.
Q: What information is kept on a customer if you dont mind me asking.
We keep the minimum: Email account and payment info. No traffic logs at all.
